CALL Teaching Instructions for
“Guggenheim Museum”

Level: Middle school to adult

High Intermediate/Advanced

Time: 40 -60 minutes

Language Objective: Discussing art, expressing likes and dislikes about art.

Warm Up
Ask students what artists they know and what artists they like. Ask students when the last time they went to a museum was. What did they see? How often do they go to museums?Explain that today they are going to take a virtual tour of the Guggenheim Museum.

Activity

Picasso
Go to http://www.guggenheim.org/

Run your cursor over the pictures. Where are the Guggenheim museums located?
Click on New York.

Search for Picasso by entering his name in the search field. After locating Picasso click on Picasso-Fernande with a Black Mantilla. When was this picture painted? Do you like it? Why ? Why not? Give reasons.

Return to the Guggenheim page. Search for Klee. When you find the entries for Klee, click on "Klee-Red Balloon." When was the picture painted? Describe the picture.
Under the picture read about Klee's style. What is your opinion on his style.

Chagall

Search for Chagall. When you find him list all the works that the museum has with the dates of the paintings. Which do you like best? Why?
There was a major Chagall exhibition in Seoul this year. Where was it? When was it? Do a web search and find that information.
